Student Care Welfare Queensland Inc. is running a poetry competition to raise funds for its counselling programs that assist children between the ages of 4 and 17.

The top entries will be published in an anthology of around 200 pages in early 2011, and prizes will be awarded to the winners from the adult and junior categories.
  • The winning adult entry will receive a mystery prize. (Open Nationally)
  • The winning junior entry will receive a $200 cash prize. (Open to QLD only)
  • Selected entries will receive certificates of commendation.
  • Selected entries will be published in an anthology available for purchase through Student Care Welfare Qld Inc. (contributors will receive a discount).

 The funds raised will go towards our counselling programs, including ‘Talking Through Toys’.

General guidelines:

  • Each poem should be no longer than 100 lines.
  • This is not a political poetry competition. We are looking for poems dealing with social, emotional, and family issues of some kind.
  • Poetry must be related in some way one or several of the following: Loneliness, depression, homelessness, reminiscence of school days, youth issues, family, drug issues, relevant social issues.
  • Poem/s must be typed in a clearly readable font such as 12pt Times New Roman or Arial, with double or 1.5 spacing. Printed on one side of the page only. No email entries accepted.
  • Entries must be original, previously unpublished, and not under consideration by another publisher.
